Lynne Riley - Fulton County Commissioner, District 3

Dear North Fulton friends,

2008 promises to be a year of positive change in Fulton County government. I welcome the new city of Chattahoochee Hill Country, and look forward to providing assistance in the mission of successful municipal service delivery to its citizens. I welcome Zachary Williams, our new Fulton County Manager, and Larry Ramsey, our recently appointed Interim County Attorney. I am confident that they will provide the citizens of Fulton County with excellent service.

In 2007, the Georgia General Assembly enacted House Resolution 351, which created the Joint House-Senate Study Committee on Fulton County Government. Many recommendations have been crafted for legislative reforms. During the 2008 session, Representative Edward Lindsey will introduce bills to reduce the number of Fulton County Commissioners from seven to five; elevate the office of Commission Chairperson to a full-time position with increased responsibilities; stagger the terms of office of the Commissioners; provide for reforms in the office of the Fulton County Sheriff; and provide for enhancements to the Fulton County Justice System. As a member of the Joint Study Committee, I am pleased with the outcomes, and will continue to assist the Fulton County Delegation to the Georgia General Assembly in their efforts to provide greater efficiencies in Fulton County Government.

The extreme drought conditions we are experiencing in North Georgia will be an area of focus in 2008. Fulton County will continue to promote conservation initiatives to its water customers. I have created a North Fulton Task Force on Water Re-Use, with representatives from Milton, Roswell, Alpharetta and Johns Creek. We will work to expand our water re-use distribution system to provide non-potable water for irrigation to commercial, industrial, and residential users in North Fulton. The Task Force will collaborate on a re-use water utility, a pricing structure for re-use customers, and developments standards for re-use water systems in new developments.

The District 3 team and I will continue to champion the delivery of efficient and accountable county government services. We will continue to collaborate closely with city governments and the Fulton County Board of Education to provide superior quality of life to our residents that transcends government boundaries.

I am grateful for the privilege of serving you as your Fulton County Commissioner, representing District 3. Please contact our office any time we may be of service.
